Dora's Portfolio: At Second Glance

Artist Statement: Dora Mlinarevic

My work during the time I have been at EYRAC I have learned more about the alternative ways of creating art through a lens. I feel as though my work has affected me in many ways, such as giving me a different outlook on the world. Now I view the world as artistic and seeing its true beauty, as well as the story I put behind each and every one of my photos even before capturing my shot.

I feel as though my preferred style of photography has to do with where I feel at home, which is mainly nature, but also this includes the architectural elements of person made as well as naturally constructed design. To me nature has this sense of home because it seems so peaceful, where you can just be alone, and be yourself with your thoughts and that is home, since I feel like my true self when no one is around.

I love expressing emotion through any photos no matter if it is a person or an object. I hope that anyone who sees my photographs will see a meaning behind each shot, which does not necessarily need to be my meaning but I hope that they find their own meaning within each of my pictures.

I love capturing shots of things most people would just walk by and not even bother to take a second glance. To me finding the beauty in something most people don’t consider so special make me feel at ease. Such as capturing a moment in a crowd of people, focusing in on the specific moment or finding something unique in that crowd of people that most people would just miss out on.

Photography has changed my perspective in the world and made me see things in a different light, it has gave me an appreciation for the little thing I used to take for granted. To me photography is more than just capturing a picture, its capturing the true story behind each shot.
