Cameron's Portfolio: Life Through the Lens

Artist Statement: Cameron Redlich

My work during the time I have been at EYRAC I have learned more about the different components of photography. Before joining the 2017/2018 Etobicoke year round alternative center photography class I was an amature photographer at best with some very basic skills. Now I have developed a love for photography and capturing real and pure moments, which is why I enjoy shooting nature and street photography.

There is something so real and so raw about catching a candid moment or a breathtaking moment in nature. The colour of the leaves in the autumn, the bright fiery sunsets on a summer night and just all the different ways and angles that you can shoot the same piece of nature. I like to take something we see everyday outside and shoot it so you look at it a different way that you never have before. Even though you may have walked past this tree or whatever I was shooting a bunch of times, I like to make people see in a different way when it comes to my nature photography.

Street photography to me is more than just taking pictures of people out in the city. To me street photography is similar to telling a story. I don't usually like taking big crowd street shots, I’d much rather take a shot of just one or two people that can tell a much more intimate story. I feel that street photography is much more than what people make it out to be, as a street photographer you can catch such candid and intimate moments. You can tell such an amazing story through just a few well taken pictures. As they say a picture s worth a thousand words.

Photography has really opened my eyes and made me look at the world in a totally different way. In a much more artistic and creative way. The world is my canvas and the camera is my brushes.
